Kamala Harris' resonse to hecklers at one of her campaign rallies, alienates devout christians.
The Quote:
"Oh you guys are at the wrong rally. No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street. "
Context:
During a campaign rally in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on October 17, 2024, two college students, Luke Polaske and Grant Beth, shouted "Jesus is Lord" as Vice President Kamala Harris was speaking about abortion rights. Videos of the interaction, which quickly went viral, showed Harris pause her speech and respond, "Oh, you guys are at the wrong rally." then follow up with, "No, I think you meant to go to the smaller one down the street," presumably referring to a nearby Donald Trump rally.
Critics have suggested that Harris' response was dismissive of faith.
Polaske and Beth, who identify as pro-life, told Fox News they believed they were doing "God's work" by attending the rally and speaking out against Harris' pro-choice stance. They claimed Harris' response was directed at them, and after their remarks, campaign staff removed them from the event.
Who Said It:
The first female Vice President of the United States and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, Kamala Harris has served as the U.S. Vice President under Joe Biden since 2021. She replaced Biden as the Democratic party's presidential nominee in 2024 and subsequently lost the election to Donald Trump. Previously Harris was elected district attorney of San Francisco in 2003 and served two terms as the California Attorney General starting in 2010. Harris was also the junior U.S. senator from California from 2017 to 2021 before becoming Biden's running mate in their successful bid for the Whitehouse. (source)
