Sarah Palin served as the ninth governor of Alaska from 2006 - 2009. At age 42, the former beauty queen was the youngest person and first woman to be elected Governor of The Last Frontier State.

Previously in 1996, Palin was elected Mayor of her hometown, Wasilla, Alaska, where she once reigned as Miss Wasilla.  

In 2008, Palin teamed up with John McCain to became the first Republican female vice presidential nominee. The McCain-Palin ticket subsequently lost their bid for the Whitehouse to Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden. 

During the campaign, Palin tried to hide her inexperience by playing the role of anti-establishement "political maverick." She was bull-headed and blunt, often breaking with the party line. But her folksy bullshit backfired time and again, making her sound dumb. Ridicule eventually gave way to laughter and today her igorant statements are endearingly quoted as "Palinisms."
