Lawmaker Jasmine Crockett Doesn't Know the Law

You may be shocked to learn that Texas lawmaker, Jasmine Crocket,  doesn't know immigration law. 

A secure Southern border is of critical concern to her constituents -- scratch that -- to the entire nation.  So we don't think it's asking too much for Congresswoman Crocket to know what is and isn't considered criminal when crossing a United States border. Even if it's been a minute since Crocket was in law school, illegal immigration has been all over the news this past year, which is more than enough time for her to bone up on immigration statutes.

The Quote

" It's not a criminal violation to enter the country illegally. It's not a crime."

Context:

Crocket was discussing sanctuary cities and railing against Republicans when she made the outrageous claim in 2025. A guest on MSNBC's Katie Phang Show, she accused Republicans of "rounding up" illegal aliens for nothing more than "civil accusations" rather than serious crimes like murder or sexual assault.  

The Social media backlash to Crocket's drivel was brutal. Critics were quick to point out the stupidity of not only her mistake, but also her word choice.    Using the word, "illegally" to make her point should have been a big clue for Crockett that "entering the country illegally" is, just what the adverb describes it to be: illegal -- which makes it a criminal  act.

The U.S. Immigration Statute Migrants Are Violating

Any non-citizen who enters the U.S. without going through the proper channels is breaking the law.  Specifically, improper entry into the United Sates violates Title 8, Section 1325 of U.S. Code, which is a  federal crime  punishable by fines and up to six months in jail for first-time offenders.

Repeat offenders can be subjected to fines and up to two years in prison.

ICE Arrests Murderers, Pedophiles and Rapists

Crocket's claim that ICE doesn't arrest illegal aliens who are guilty of serious crimes is also incorrect.  While most illegal immigrants aren't hardened criminals, ICE officers risk their lives every day to get those who are off our streets and out of the country. 

The department of Homeland Security recently released the names and rap sheets of criminal illegal aliens who were arrested on the weekend of July 21, 2025. Here are just a few of the murderers, rapists and pedophiles ICE detained that weekend:

She previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from the 100th district, beginning in 2021.
