John Edwards is a former politician and six-term United States Senator representing North Carolina from 1999 to 2005. He served as John Kerry's vice-presidential running mate during an unsuccessful bid for the White House in 2004 and suspended his own Presidential campaign in 2008.
Context:
In 2008, Edwards admitted to an extramarital affair that produced a child with Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker hired to work for his 2008 presidential campaign. He was later indicted for misuse of campaign funds allegedly spent to cover up the affair, but was found not guilty at a jury trial. The Justice department dropped the charges.
