In 2008, Senator JohnEdwards admitted (after months of denial) to an extramarital affair that produced a child with Rielle Hunter, a filmmaker hired to work for his presidential campaign. He was later indicted for misuse of campaign funds allegedly spent to cover up the affair, but was found not guilty at a jury trial. The Justice department dropped the charges. .
